Summary:The Austrian Church seemed to be a church in resistance, like the state a victim of German aggression. Therefore the bishops felt no necessity to reflect on Austrian antisemitism or on the declaration of church leaders in March 1938 to vote for Hitler. On the other hand the bishops tried to replace struggle and hatred by love and reconciliation, but that political line helped the Austrians to escape from their past.
