Summary: | Arvid Harnack and Harro Schulze-Boysen were the leaders of one of the greatest wartime resistance organizations in Nazi-Germany, called „Red Orchestra“ by the Gestapo. From the Gestapo and also after World War II the members of the group were diffamed as communist traitors, who only had established a radio network to give intelligence reports to the Soviet Union. But this was not the main intention of this organization; not only communists worked in the organization, but also a great number of ministerial officials, intellectuals and artists. The article intends to show the different ideological motivations and different activities of the group members. The examples given are the Socialist Arvid Harnack, senior official in the Ministery of Economy, the former member of the conservative „Young German Order“ Harro Schulze-Boysen and the convinced Christians Helmut Himpel (Protestant) and Maria Terwiel (Catholic). |
