| Resumo: | The following essay is based on a lecture given at Waseda University in December, 2002. In it, the author, a former visiting scholar at the Nanzan Institute for Religion and Culture, and professor of Japanese Buddhism currently working on Japanese poetry on the Lotus Sutra, attempts a broad cultural framework for encompassing the relationship between Chinese-language scriptures and the Japanese paraphrases that were considered a religious practice by medieval monastic poets. |
