Zij weegt en weerlegt exegetische tegenargumenten en toont vervolgens aan dat in de oudste bron, het evangelie van Markus, de term discipelen niet alleen inclusief gebruikt wordt, maar vrouwen bovendien als voorbeeldige discipelen in beeld zijn. Op grond van vroeg-christelijke geschriften waarin vrouwen expliciet discipelen van Jezus worden genoemd, en gebaseerd op recent onderzoek naar de historische situatie en positie van vrouwen in jodendom en christendom, laat zij zien dat het door Schüssler Fiorenza geïntroduceerde 'leerlingschap van gelijken' niet een kwestie is van een andere manier van historische verbeelding maar van historische realiteit. Esther de Boer's starting-point in her contribution: 'Discipleship of equals and historical "reality'", is the question whether, in the formative period of the Jesus movement, women were 'really' and on an equal footing disciples of Jesus. First, she weighs and disproves the counter-arguments. Next, she demonstrates how the term 'disciples' is not only used in an inclusive way in the oldest source, the Gospel of Mark, but that women even exemplify Markan discipleship. De Boer also refers to extra-canonical texts in order to show that historically speaking, it is plausible that the women are included in 'the disciples'. Based upon early Christian texts in which women are explicitly portrayed as disciples of Jesus, and upon recent investigations of the historical situation and the positions women held in Judaism and Christianity, De Boer shows that the 'discipleship of equals'. introduced by Schüssler Fiorenza, should not be reduced to 'different historical imagination', but can be viewed as part of historical reality. |
