Así pues, Rut es la figura de la mujer que, desde su capacidad de generar vida, puede dar un nuevo sentido a la humanidad. Con esto, se hace referencia no sólo a la maternidad natural, sino a la capacidad de la mujer de reconstruir y regenerar aquello que parece perdido. Se entiende a la mujer, entonces, también como vehículo de gracia a la que, por tanto, no le corresponde únicamente una tarea en la esfera privada, sino también pública. La mujer, como símil de la Iglesia madre, tiene una tarea activa de hospitalidad y acogida. Los Padres de la Iglesia, desde sus reflexiones sobre la maternidad de la mujer e inclusive desde la eclesiología, pueden aportar a la comprensión actual de la mujer desde esta tarea activa.
