Summary:Sanz and Escartín is one of the first Spanish sociologists. Catholic thinker, and conservative politics, decisively influenced Spanish reformist thinking. Of the various sources from which emphasizes drank Christian social thought. Before the publication of Rerum Novarum had advocated in his writings positions and approaches that, following the publication of the Encyclical, became part of the social doctrine of the Church. Issues of ethical-religious social reform, the central role of the Church, the legitimacy of state intervention and the need for alternative association of workers and employers are some of the elements present in the work of Sanz and Escartín.
Sanz y Escartín es uno de los primeros sociólogos españoles. Pensador católico, y de ideas políticas conservadoras, influyó decisivamente en el pensamiento reformista español. De las distintas fuentes de las que bebió destaca el pensamiento social cristiano. Antes de la publicación de la Rerum Novarum ya había defendido en sus escritos posiciones y planteamientos que, tras la publicación de la Encíclica, pasaron a formar parte de la doctrina social de la Iglesia. Asuntos como el carácter ético-religioso de la reforma social, el papel central de la Iglesia, la legitimidad de un intervencionismo estatal subsidiario y la necesidad de asociación de obreros y patronos son algunos de los elementos más presentes en las obra de Sanz y Escartín.
