| Summary: | Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556) happened to live during the first part of 16th century, one of the most prolific periods in spiritual movements and theologies, most of them inspired by the Protestant Reform. The rich personality of Ignatius of Loyola, shaped within this framework, led him to seek new proposals of spirituality. In his quest, Ignatius had to choose at crucial crossroads throughout his life. Some of this crossroads are portrayed in this paper: the «new life» with his own «knight past», different theological and spiritual trends, the emergent Humanism and also the Catholic Orthodoxy. The institution inspired by Ignatius’ spiritual experience, the Society of Jesus, has inherited this sense of being present there were the ideologies, cultures or theologies meet, and articulates this implication in her official contemporary documents as «frontiers», «crossroads», «bridges» or «dialogue». La vida de Ignacio de Loyola (1491-1556) discurrió, en gran medida, durante la primera mitad de uno de los siglos más prolíficos en movimientos y propuestas espirituales de contenidos muy diversos, no pocos de ellos motivados y animados desde los planteamientos teológicos de la Reforma Protestante. La personalidad inquieta de Ignacio de Loyola queda enmarcada en este contexto de búsqueda de nuevos caminos de espiritualidad. Los diferentes contextos en los que va desarrollando las sucesivas etapas de su vida le sitúan en diversas situaciones de encrucijada: con su pasado caballeresco, con las corrientes teológicas y espirituales del momento, con el Humanismo emergente y con la propia ortodoxia católica. La institución que nace y se desarrolla inspirada por su experiencia espiritual, la Compañía de Jesús, asume esta vocación de presencia en los encuentros de ideologías, culturas, teologías y lo formula desde sus documentos oficiales contemporáneos en clave de frontera, encrucijada, puente o diálogo. |
