| Summary: | One of the first seven Jesuits gathered in Paris (1528-1536), Peter Faber carried out a very important role in the foundation and consolidation of the Society of Jesus, which remains to be discovered and appreciated. A first companion of Ignatius of Loyola at Saint Barbara College, first in making the full Thirty Day Retreat with him, Faber enjoyed great esteem and «authority» among the First Companions, and was recognised by all of them as the «older brother» of the group. This article focuses on four different dimensions of this young Saboyan Jesuit`s personality in an attempt to give reason to Faber`s primacy in the group: he was simple and had a profound anthropological configuration, of a competent intellectual and theological formation, with extraordinary gifts for spiritual conversation and a particular way of offering and living the Spiritual Exercises, a ministry in which he «got the first place», according to Ignatius. The approach and delving into the life and worth of Peter Faber in the «Group of Paris» and in the first Society of Jesus is necessary to understand the spirituality and charisma of this new group that grew so powerfully in one of the most «convulsive» centuries in the history of the Church. Uno de los primeros siete jesuitas del tiempo de París (1528-1536), Pedro Fabro desarrolló un papel fundamental en la consolidación y el primer desarrollo de la Compañía de Jesús, que todavía está por conocer y valorar en su justa medida. Primer compañero de Ignacio en el colegio de Santa Bárbara de la Sorbona, primero en hacer con él los ejercicios completos, Fabro gozó de gran estima y «autoridad» entre los Primeros Compañeros, reconocido por todos como «hermano mayor» del grupo. Este artículo se aproxima a cuatro dimensiones de la rica personalidad del joven Jesuita saboyano que intentan dar respuesta al porqué de tal reconocimiento y estima: su sencilla y profunda configuración antropológica, su competente formación intelectual y teológica, sus extraordinarias cualidades para la conversación espiritual y su peculiar y acertada manera de dar y proponer los ejercicios espirituales, en lo que, en palabras del mismo Ignacio, «tuvo el primer lugar». Acercarse y profundizar en el valor y la función de Pedro Fabro en el grupo de París y en la posterior Compañía de Jesús es ineludible para comprender la espiritualidad y el carisma de este nuevo grupo que con tanta energía se desarrolló en el corazón de uno de los siglos más agitados de la historia de la Iglesia. |
