| Summary: | Resting on the principle of subsidiarity, the author expresses his preference for the free market instead of any central planified economy, but he analyses its effects on price formation, resource assignment, and wealth distribution. The consequence is always the same: it is necessary to conciliate the right to economic initiative with a regulating intervention by public powers, in conformity with the thesis expressed in Gaudium et spes (65): «There is need as well of the coordination and fitting and harmonious combination of the spontaneous efforts of individuals and of free groups with the undertakings of public authorities.» Partiendo del principio de subsidiariedad, el autor manifiesta sus preferencias por el mercado libre frente a la economía centralmente planificada, pero analiza los resultados del mercado en cuanto a formación de precios, asignación de recursos y distribución de riqueza, llegando siempre a la conclusión de que es necesario conciliar el derecho a la iniciativa económica con una intervención reguladora por parte de los poderes públicos, en conformidad con la tesis enunciada por la Gaudium et spes (65): «No se puede confiar el desarrollo ni al solo proceso mecánico de la acción económica de los individuos ni a la sola decisión de la autoridad pública». |
