Description
Résumé:Many religious orders and congregations in Flanders (Belgium), as in the rest of Western-Europe, are confronted with serious challenges with regard to their heritage in general and their libraries in particular. Declining numbers and aging communities urge them to take delicate decisions about leaving or reorganizing traditional convent buildings and scaling down or reallocating their cherished and important heritage collections. By illustrating the historical value and remarkable diversity, but also the complexity related to libraries of Flemish (and Belgian) religious institutes, this contribution wants to stress the potential of partnerships between religious and heritage institutions, such KADOC-KU Leuven, in developing future plans for convent libraries.
