Summary: | In the field of Religious Libraries, a start-up of monk-programmers from the Abbey of Maredsous (Belgium) launched, as early as 1983, the project of a European computerised cataloguing network. It was presented in Rome in March 1984 at one of the first meetings of all the ecclesiastical librarians in Rome. The Maredsous project was not retained and the computerisation of libraries in ecclesiastical circles proceeded in a disparate manner. The Maredsous team continued to develop numerous pioneering projects in the Biblical field. They also responded to the request of many religious congregations to digitise their archives. |
