Summary:Personal growth (Self-Actualization) as an effect of Clinical Pastoral Education was investigated. 101 subjects participated. The Personal Orientation Inventory and the Christie Self-Concept Inventory were given before and after the quarter, and, again, after one month. A demographic questionnaire and a limited number of personal interviews were used. Statistical results are favorable to the hypothesis that CPE is an effective procedure for fostering personal growth. This growth seems to diminish upon completion of the quarter, with the exception of the desire to be self-actualized which doesn't lessen over time.
