Summary: | Although the Āndhras have been living in this country over the past 131 years, very little is known about this community such as its language maintenance efforts and religio-cultural activities. This article, based on an academic study, deals with how the Hindu religion acts as one of the governing factors for Telugu language maintenance in South Africa. In order to achieve this objective, the writer examined some of the main religio-cultural activities which are unique to the Hindu Āndhras in South Africa. The statistical data used in this article is based on empirical research conducted in and around Durban. |
