| Summary: | This paper attempts to deal with the uneasy relationship between women, human rights and religion from a Christian feminist perspective. By way of introduction it touches on the complex often contradictory relationship between human rights and religion. Thereafter, against the background of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, the question of the pervasive and extensive discrimination against women is addressed. Such discrimination is further abetted by religious institutions in a variety of ways. In conclusion, suggestions are made as to the possible contribution of a feminist liberation theological view to women's situation in the future South Africa. |
