Итог: | Research on corporate participation in the “Aryanization” of Jewish property has suffered neglect because of limitations on available documentation. The following seeks to rectify this by studying the Friedrich Flick Concern's involvement in the Aryanization of Simson Waffenfabrik, Hochofenwerk Lübeck, and the Julius and lgnaz Petschek properties. Our understanding has long relied upon trial records of the United States Military Tribunal—a less than fully-encompassing source; this study taps unstudied records of the Flick Concern and archival material from the Third Reich's ministries of finance, economics, and foreign affairs. Flick's successful expansion at the expense of Jewish-owned companies suggests a favored position in the Nazi state; this oversimplifies however, for success depended on serving state needs. Jewish businessmen tried various strategies, but efforts to protect their assets grew increasingly difficult with the radicalization of Nazi tactics. |
