| Summary: | Following some criticisms on views expressed in a previous article on the concept of genocide, as related to the Jewish case, this essay seeks to explain the crucial significance of the set of conditions that actually produce genocide, antecedent ideologies and subsequent demographic outcomes are treated as ancillary factors The frame of mind and the resolve of the group enacting genocide are treated as paramount factors. As applied to the Jewish case — as well as the Armenian case — the emergence and sway of a monolithic political party permeating the state organization and subverting the functions of government in pursuit of radical party programs is treated as a pivotal development in this regard The optimization of power and its corollary, the crystallization of genocidal intent, amid the exigencies and crises of a war exploited as a singular opportunity by the perpetrator, are seen as the arch determinants of genocide. The emphasis here is on the dynamics of escalating intergroup conflicts The essay ends with the presentation of a paradigmatic chart highlighting and interconnecting a web of factors seen as configuring in the genocidal scheme — in terms of its three principal phases, i.e. initiation, organization and implementation |
