Description
Summary:The deeds of non-Jews who, in Nazi-occupied Europe, risked their lives to save Jews from destruction, have confounded many students of altruistic behaviour. It is suggested in this paper that altruism in its variant forms is an innate human predisposition which modern society has caused to be restricted to insignificance but which the Righteous Gentiles have demonstrated can be aroused to assume dominance over our behaviour for short spells of time. Furthermore, its manifestation does not show it to be restricted to a select talented few; it is a quality shared by all, hence capable of flourishing within a great range of human experiences.
