Summary: | Holocaust literature characteristically uses antecedent Jewish texts in an extremely revisionary manner. Here three variants are analysed for the manner in which they treat the story of Abraham's sacrifice of his son Isaac. The conclusion is that a disconnection of serious dimensions has occurred whereby the terms of the Akedah story have shifted from Abraham and Jewish fidelity to the convenant to Isaac who is now given the chance to say what his wounded eyes have seen. |
