| Riepilogo: | In this article, I probe the apostle Paulʼs view of theological epistemology through a glimpse into 1 Corinthians - the letter in which knowledge and wisdom occurs more frequently than in all the other Pauline writings combined - attending to Paulʼs self-understanding as a knower and communicator of truth, finding a view of a privileged yet dependent apostle. I also scrutinize how he guides the ekklesia he founded in how to handle the crux of idolatrous food, arriving at a value more profound than the establishment of a detailed prevailing theological positioning or practice - a knowing based in and giving birth to love. To Paul, theological knowledge that exists without coming to fruition in love for God and the neighbour is not true knowledge. Additionally I find in 1 Corinthians a relational ontology that seems to be undergirding the apostleʼs epistemological positioning, being expressed in his Christocentric reframing of the shma. |
