Description
Summary:In 1967, the United Presbyterian Church adopted a new, contemporary confession of faith. Led by Edward A. Dowey, Jr., the drafting committee shepherded the document through a long, and sometimes contentious, ratification process. The new confession was Christocentric and avoided earlier Protestant speculations over the mode of biblical inspiration. The central theme was reconciliation, which was treated as a synonym for justification by grace through faith. The confession emphasized the church's responsibility to witness to he social dimension of reconciliation.
