Summary: | This paper presents evidence of a direct citation of the pseudepigraphic letter of 3 Corinthians in the Martyrdom of Šarbēl, a fictional legend probably from fifth-century Edessa. I argue that 3 Corinthians was considered an authentic, authoritative letter by the group that produced this text, extending the regard for 3 Corinthians as part of the Syrian "canon" of scripture into the fifth century. |
