| Summary: | São fartos e relevantes os testemunhos em favor da posição de destaque da Bíblia Almeida como patrimônio literário e religioso da língua portuguesa. E não obstante o conjunto expressivo de estudiosos que se debruçaram sobre a história dessa pioneira tradução bíblica em português, permanece ainda hoje um dilema quanto às suas fontes textuais, especialmente no que diz respeito ao embasamento ou não do seu tradutor nos idiomas bíblicos originais. Como estágio inicial e indispensável para um melhor esclarecimento dessa incógnita, foram rastreadas, de maneira ordenada, as conclusões dos principais especialistas na matéria, além de perscrutados, à medida do possível, os materiais de onde elas foram extraídas. Finalmente, esboçou-se uma síntese do status quaestionis, ponto de partida necessário para se obter depois, eventualmente, uma solução mais satisfatória para esse duradouro impasse. Testimonies on the prominent position of the Almeida Bible as a literary and religious her-itage of the Portuguese language are many and relevant. However, despite the substantial number of studies on the history of the first translation of the Bible into Portuguese, there is still a great deal of doubt regarding its textual sources, especially whether or not the translator followed the original biblical languages. As an initial and necessary step to solve this problem, the most import-ant conclusions on the subject were systematically tracked; and, as far as possible, we also seek to provide the materials from which these conclusions were drawn. Finally, a synthesis of the status quaestionis was made, considered as an indispensable starting point to obtain in the future a more satisfactory solution to this impasse. |
