Description
Summary:This short, yet highly important, lecture by Einar Thomassen, one of the leading scholars in the field of early Christian theology and Nag Hammadi studies, is a very welcome contribution to the recent debate about the notion of ‘Gnosticism’. The author and his groundbreaking publications need no introduction to readers who research Nag Hammadi documents, especially those related to Valentinus’ followers, and some of the early apologists such as Irenaeus of Lyons. Still the short but informative introduction by Christoph Markschies helps to bring awareness of the richness of Thomassen’s scholarly impact and the incredible breadth of his theological and linguistic expertise. The nine short chapters of the booklet which follow exemplify Thomassen’s great ability to examine complex religious ideas in a coherent and persuasive manner.
