Description
Summary:The article presents the missionary aspect as a fundamental characteristic of the Franciscan Order which, nevertheless, is not limited to a single and specific way of undertaking mission in the Church. The initial task of the friars was that of the realisation of a new form of evangelical life which by its nature is missionary as a testimony of Christ, and for this reason the Order has not fixed itself on a particular type of apostolate. Within this view, the author highlights the apostolate of St. Maximilian Mary Kolbe where a missionary nature all of his own is found: his total consecration to the Immaculate Conception and attention to grasp the signs of the times as well as the needs of the Church are its strong points. It is therefore underlined how St. Maximilian, through the foundation of the Militia of the Immaculate Conception and the Niepokalanów, and by making use of the new means of evangelization - namely the press -, proposed an authentic style of Franciscan apostolate which, although original and innovative, appears to be the fruit of an authentic witness lived within the Franciscan fraternity.
