The latter identified the ruins with a fairly classical Roman camp. A new visit of the site completed by an examination of ancient aerial photographs established that this pseudo- camp is composed of several distinctive features (e.g. curving curtains), incompatible with Roman military architecture. Dumayr ruins would therefore be a palatial residence whose date remains uncertain. The changes of the garrison of Dumayr, known by various inscriptions, are then examined.
