Description
Summary:The ruins located at 4 km east of the actual village of Dumayr were visited by R. Briinnow and described after Briinnow's notes by A. Domaszewski. The latter identified the ruins with a fairly classical Roman camp. A new visit of the site completed by an examination of ancient aerial photographs established that this pseudo- camp is composed of several distinctive features (e.g. curving curtains), incompatible with Roman military architecture. Dumayr ruins would therefore be a palatial residence whose date remains uncertain. The changes of the garrison of Dumayr, known by various inscriptions, are then examined.
