Description
Summary:The site of Ma'ih, the antique Qarnawu and former capital of the Minean State, is situated in the Jawf depression, some 100 kilometres northeast of Sanaa. Some of its temples are known since the mid- 19th cent, but remain still unearthed. During the works carried out by the French Archaeological Mission between 1980 and 1985, new buildings near Kamna, al-Baydà' and Khirbat Hamdân were surveyed. Between 1988 and 1992, the two excavated temples of 'Athtar dhû-Risaf in as-Sawdâ' and Nakrah in Barâqish provided impressive architectural and chronological information, allowing new interpretations of the religious architecture in this area.
