Description
Summary:This paper tries to negotiate a practical theology of the identity struggle now occurring in Hong Kong. It shows that the tension and conflict between Hong Kong and China has drastically increased while Hong Kong’s identity is gradually disappearing. Is there a way to resolve the conflict? Under what conditions should the two parties be driven towards reconciliation? How should we understand the local resistance? Should this resistance continue? What ultimate vision should lie behind the resistance? Analysing the situation with the lenses offered by Miroslav Volf’s theology of embrace and Homi Bhabha’s vernacular cosmopolitanism, this paper proposes a set of eight principles to guide such local practical theologizing.
