| Summary: | As polémicas intensas de que a Companhia de Jesus e os seus membros foram alvo em Portugal e nas suas colónias ultramarinas desde a modernidade contribuíram para a criação de um mito negro dos Jesuítas. Este estigmatizou ideologicamente a literatura e a historiografia e condicionou a leitura do papel dos Padres da Companhia em termos missionários, educativos e científicos. O artigo desenvolve uma análise do processo de construção e recriação deste mito de complot jesuítico e do seu significado. The intense dispute in which the Society of Jesus and their members have been involved in Portugal and in its colonies since the modernity, contributed to the creation of a Jesuit black myth. This stigmatized ideologicaly the literature and the historiography and conditioned the understanding of the Society’s Fathers in missionary, educational and scientific terms. The article develop an analysis of the construction process and recreation of this jesuit complot myth and its meaning. |
