Summary: | This article uses quantifiable data taken from matriculation lists and stipendiary records to examine the implementation of educational policies of certain sixteenth century territorial states. The results show the success of the Hessian state's reversal of a decline in preparatory schools and that Reformation era policies promoted the development of territorial cultures favorable to the emerging state apparatus with the definition and education of elites to manage the state. |
