Summary: | This article addresses the question whether the solar eclipse of April 13 th , 1308 BCE can be linked to the well known solar omen in regnal year 10 of Muršili II (KUB 14.4). Taking into account the local horizon at Ḫattuša and the methodological vagueries of applying modern astronomical calculations to ancient observations, this solar eclipse may well have been observed from the southern and south-eastern parts of the city. The correlation of this eclipse with the solar omen ties in nicely with historical dates provided by Pharaonic regnal years and Egyptian lunar data (Low Chronology). |
