Summary: | In June 2020, due to COVID-19, Benny Hinn transitioned to semi-regular bi-weekly Zoom Healing Services that allowed him to gather diverse audiences of his global adherents in healing services that complicate what it means to impart and to touch. Having attended every Zoom Healing Service, in this article, I will explore Hinn’s haptic use of Zoom technology. Why does Hinn remain committed to touching the screen? How does this reshape and reimagine touch and impartation? How is the divine imagined in this transaction as it traverses the globe in seconds? Hinn’s use of Zoom adds a new media to a technological savvy instantiation of Christianity that is committed to imbibing media with experiences of the sacred. This article discusses Hinn’s addition of another technological dimension – video conferencing software – to a long list of technologies that Pentecostals use in their efforts to touch the world. |
