| Summary: | The major emphasis of last Sunday's Scriptures was the "future"$dGod's promise of a true successor of David who would usher in a new era. This promise would be accomplished in the "future" coming of Jesus, the "Son of Man". Today's Scriptures move to address the "present", John the Baptist's appearance in the wilderness and his call for a "baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins". The Gospel grounds this call very carefully in an historical period, naming the emperor in Rome, the Roman governor in Judaea, the local rulers in Galilee, and the religious leaders in Jerusalem. |
