| Summary: | A thoroughly annotated and complete modern English translation and normalization of More’s correspondence has been needed for a long time. Many new letters have been uncovered in the 75 years since the publication of Elizabeth Roger’s still-indispensable edition, and intervening scholarship has prompted the reevaluation of important details of chronology and authorship. This article details the story of the work begun by a team of German scholars working under Hubertus Schulte-Herbrüggen in the 1980s towards bringing a new edition to fruition and offers introductions, notes, and translations to the so-called Utopia correspondence between Henry VIII and his ambassadors in the Low Countries as a sample of recently-renewed efforts to bring out a new edition of More’s correspondenc. Résumé: Depuis longtemps se ressent la nécessité d’établir une traduction complète et une normalisation de la correspondance de More en anglais moderne, entièrement annotée. On a découvert un grand nombre de nouvelles lettres au cours des soixante-quinze ans qui se sont écoulés depuis la publication de l’édition toujours indispensable d’Elizabeth Roger, et les travaux d’érudition qui ont suivi ont incité à réévaluer d’importants détails de chronologie et de paternité. Cet article détaille l’histoire du travail entrepris par une équipe de chercheurs allemands travaillant sous l’égide de Hubertus Schulte-Herbrüggen dans les années 1980 en vue de mener à bien une nouvelle édition, proposant introductions, notes et traductions de ce qu’on a appelé « la correspondance de l’Utopie » entre Henry VIII et ses ambassadeurs aux Pays-Bas, et qui représente une sorte d’échantillon des efforts récemment renouvelés pour proposer une nouvelle édition de la correspondance de More |
