Summary: | This article attempts to provide a comprehensive overview of the Eastern Cuba Baptist Theological Seminary within the larger context of theological education in Cuba. Three major purposes directed the research reported in this paper. The first purpose was historical: to document and evaluate the rise and achievements of the Eastern Cuba Theological Seminary, which has continued its mission through extraordinary political opposition and economic difficulties. The second major purpose was institutional: to gain insight into the modus operandi of Cuban Christian higher education. The tertiary purpose of the study was to identify perceived needs of the seminaries. Overall, the study sought to provide useful information that could facilitate a better understanding of theological higher education in Cuba. This first article presents a historical overview of Cuban Protestantism and its implications for theological higher education. Also, the article serves as an introduction to the series. |
