| Summary: | This essay considers scriptural imagery in Revelation and the Shepherd of Hermas. Both apocalypses employ images and rarely offer verbatim quotations from Jewish scripture. The essay takes up feminine imagery as a test case for determining how scripture is interpreted in these apocalypses. After briefly describing the characterisation of each woman, the essay considers what criteria may be employed to determine whether a particular image came from Jewish scripture.
