Giovanni Paolo II si rivolgeva ad un mondo il cui contesto era ancora caratterizzato dalla presenza dall’ “impero del male”. La sua azione pastorale ha scosso le fondamentale di quel “gigante dai piedi d’argilla”, fino al suo definitivo crollo e ai tentativi di implementare forme di democrazia liberale. Papa Francesco parla alle donne e agli uomini dei nostri giorni e sottolinea le contraddizioni dei sistemi economici che non rispettano la dignità umana. Entrambi, tuttavia, si rivolgono all’umano, scavando nella sua dimensione più profonda. È questo il grande lascito di Giovanni Paolo II che Papa Francesco ha fatto proprio e rilanciato, consentendoci di liberare la nozione di sviluppo dalle strettoie tecnocratiche della sostenibilità interpretata in termini materialistici, potendola restituire alla dimensione integrale dell’uomo. Forty years after John Pail II’s Laborem exercens (1981), Pope Francis publishes Fratelli tutti. John Paul II was addressing a world whose context was still characterized by the presence of the “empire of evil”. His pastoral action shook the foundations of that “giant with clay feet”, until its final collapse and the attempts to implement forms of liberal democracy. Pope Francis speaks to the woman and men of our days and underlines the contradictions of the economic systems that don’t respect human dignity. Both, however, turned to man, digging into the deepest dimension of him. This is the great legacy of John Paul II that Pope Francis has made his own and relaunched, allowing us to free the notion of development from the technocratic bottlenecks of sustainability interpreted in materialistic terms, being able to restore it to the integral dimension of man. |
