Summary: | The current nunciatures of Canada and the United States were born in the late nineteenth century as stable apostolic delegations, after a tortuous evolution that saw a series of temporary pontifical envoys go overseas. This complicated genesis explains the subsequent developments of the delegations in the first half of the twentieth century. This article aims to illustrate this concatenation and at the same time identify the reasons and consequences of the choice of the first delegates in North America. |
