| Summary: | More than ever, the question of a common global good and of the role of religionsin society is vexed. This article shows how the analysis of the Common Good by Fr. Gaston Fessard (1897-1978) opens up fresh contemporary perspectives to reflect on thelink between the Church and the universal common good. When the stake was merelyto procure the common good for a particular people or nation, relegating the Churchto the private sphere seemed an appropriate solution. The limits of this option appearmore clearly, however, when the scope becomes to overcome the internal divisions ofhumanity on a global scale. In fact, these divides are so deep that societies must resortto the mediation of a Concrete Universal in order to reach reconciliation. Once we haveidentified the forms under which the Common Good can appear to diverse membersof a society (I), we can consider the paradox of a universal common good (II) and howto ground the role of the Church in international society (III), concluding with a fewconsiderations on the current geopolitical situation. La question du bien commun mondial comme celle du rôle des religions dans lasociété demeure plus que jamais disputée. L’article montre comment l’analyse du Biencommun du Père Gaston Fessard (1897-1978) ouvre des perspectives originales etactuelles pour réfléchir au lien entre Église et bien commun universel. Tant qu’il s’étaitagi de procurer le bien commun à l’échelle d’un peuple ou d’une nation, la solutionde reléguer l’action de l’Église à la sphère privée a pu paraître opportune. La limite decette option se manifeste plus clairement lorsqu’il s’agit de surmonter les divisions internesde l’humanité à l’échelle de la planète. En effet, ces fractures sont telles que lessociétés doivent avoir recours à la médiation d’un Universel concret pour parvenir à lesréconcilier. Après avoir précisé sous quelles formes le Bien commun peut apparaîtreaux divers membres d’une société (I), il sera possible d’envisager le paradoxe du biencommun universel (II) puis de fonder le rôle de l’Église dans la société internationale(III) avant d’esquisser quelques réflexions sur la situation géopolitique actuelle. |
