| Summary: | This present paper will focus on the possibility of basing a political theology on the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, according to Gaston Fessard’s interpretation of Hegel and St. Ignatius. At the heart of Ignatian meditation is the moment of free election that may bring the person closer to God. As this decision involves becoming sensitive to God’s will made manifest in history, this is the moment where human freedom is exercised. The novelty of Fessard’s approach was in putting forth the argument that our social political decisions should fallow the same process of discernment. In recent years there has been a revival of the practice of lay Spiritual Exercises. In this context, this article seeks to inquire about the possibility of establishing a political theological framework according to the methods preached by Fessard. It examines the limitations and pitfalls of such a political theology and the relations between this new method and the social doctrine of the church L’article présente le projet de Gaston Fessard d’éclairer les questions politiques à partir d’un discernement des esprits. Pour transposer les vérités de la foi dans la vie, le jésuite français recommande d’utiliser les Exercices Spirituels pour saisir l’attitude à prendre dans le cours de l’histoire politique. Il intègre les exercices ignaciens dans le projet d’une théologie chrétienne de la politique. L’article envisage l’importance assignée à l’acte libre aussi qu’à l’eschatologie comme outil herméneutique pour lire les signes des temps. Dans les dernières décennies, la pratique des Exercices Spirituels a été adaptée pour aider au processus décisionnel des laïques. Dans ce contexte l’article interroge l’enjeu, les limites et les défis d’une telle méthode de décision en politique ainsi que la compatibilité avec le projet initial de Saint Ignace. |
