Description
Summary:The originality of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises is proved by how they have radicalized the essential axes of the Church’s spiritual theology, first by obliging the retreatant to respect the utmost contingency of the «story of Our Lord’s life» without ever anticipating subsequent stages. The «rules for the discernment of spirits», however, enable the Holy Spirit, as divine Interpreter of this «story», to anticipate graces. This opposition between history and spirit also grows by reading the Gospel as Church. Finally, these Exercises encounter the immediacy of Christian experience prior to any ideologization of Christianity.
