| Summary: | The diocese of San Salvador in the mid-19th century: the challenges of bishop Tomás Miguel Pineda y Saldaña: The objective of this article is to analyze the main difficulties that Bishop Tomás Miguel Pineda y Saldaña had to face in the institutionalization process of the Diocese of San Salvador, in the mid-19th century. The main corpus of primary sources are the records of pastoral visits. After an exhaustive review of the minutes, the analysis was constructed from those parishes where the problems were most noticeable. Although difficulties were widespread in all curates. These are analyzed from four areas: (1) parish administration, (2) economic precariousness, (3) moral control of the population, (4) the pastoral and moral performance of some priests. El objetivo de este artículo es analizar las principales dificultades que el obispo Tomás Miguel Pineda y Saldaña tuvo que en-frentar en el proceso de institucionalización de la Diócesis de San Salvador, a mediados del siglo XIX. El corpus principal de fuentes primarias son los autos de las visitas pastorales. Luego de una exhaustiva revisión de las actas, el análisis se construyó a partir de aquellas parroquias donde los problemas eran más notorios. Aunque las dificultades eran generalizadas en todos los curatos. Estas se analizan a partir de cuatro ámbitos: (1) administración parroquial, (2) precariedad económica, (3) control moral de la población, (4) el desempeño pastoral y moral de algunos curas. |
