Description
Summary:The paper explores several aspects of the collection theme of "everyday recluses", with a focus on late-medieval England. The emphasis of the first half is methodological, considering how scholars might visualise and assess the extent to which recluses featured in ordinary people's quotidian experience. The essay then moves to the everyday life of the recluses themselves, drawing on both literary and documentary sources to reconstruct something of their daily routine, both liturgical and domestic.
