La cuestión aun suscita debate teológico y condiciona las diversas hermenéuticas del Vaticano II. El artículo examina en un primer momento la doctrina de León XIII sobre las relaciones Iglesia-Estado, la libertad de culto y la tolerancia religiosa, analiza los principios que la articulaban y la valoración de la realidad social y los principios filosófico-teológicos que la sustentaban. En un segundo momento se presentan los principales cambios relevantes a la cuestión que ocurrieron entre León XIII y el concilio, el iter de formatión de la Dignitatis Humanae y la caracterización de la libertad religiosa que la declaratión conciliar hace. El articulo termina con una posible explicatión de lo ocurrido en términos de cumplimiento, fruto de un enriquecimiento de la conciencia eclesial, una profundización en los principios y una reformulación de la doctrina. John Cortney Murray affirmed that the question of religious freedom raised the question of development of doctrine. The question still raises theological debate and impinges on the different hermeneutics of Vatican II. The article examines the doctrine of Leo XIII on the relationship between the Church and the state, cult freedom and religious tolerance, analyzing the principles that articulated the doctrine, the assessment of society and the philosophical-theological principles on which it was built. It then moves to present the main changes on the question between Leo XIII and the council, the process of the writing of Dignitatis Humane and the way in which religious freedom is characterized in the council declaration. The article offers at the end a possible explanation of what happened in terms of fulfillment, resulting from an enrichment of ecclesial conscience, a deeper understanding of principles and a reformulation of doctrine. |
