| Summary: | Encouraged by Pope Benedict XVI's Post-Synodal Exhortation Verbum Domini, the author studies the entire mystery of Mary in terms of her «Active Availability to the Word of God». For this, he takes his cue from Vatican II's Lumen Gentium. Chap. VIII on «The Mystery of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Mystery of Jesus Christ and in the Mystery of the Church». The author does this in two parts: first, in a sustained contemplation on John 19:25-37; then, drawing on this contemplation, he asks and answers a couple of fundamental questions: whether devotion to Mary is an essential element of our Christian faith, and, if so, what true devotion to Mary is. The answers he proposes certainly draw on the earlier contemplation; still, they are considerably and significantly deepened, helped by a further contemplative analysis of all the Lukan and Johannine gospel passages on Mary and her mystery. Ispirato nell'Esortazione Post-Sinodale Verbum Domini del Papa Benedetto XVI, l'autore studia l'intero mistero di Maria in termini della sua «Attiva disponibilità alla Parola di Dio». Per questo, prende lo spunto dalla Lumen Gentium del Concilio Vaticano II, cap. VIII sul «Mistero della B. V. Maria nel Mistero di Gesù Cristo e nel Mistero della Chiesa». In effetti, lo fa in due parti: prima, mediante una contemplazione sostenuta su Gv 19:25-37; poi, basato sulla detta contemplazione, propone un paio di domande fondamentali: se, innanzitutto, la devozione a Maria sia un elemento essenziale della nostra fede cristiana; e, se, di fatto, è così, in che cosa consista l'autentica devozione a Maria. Le risposte offerte a queste domande certamente scaturiscono dalla suddetta contemplazione; tuttavia, esse vengono approfondite grazie ad un'ulteriore analisi contemplativa di tutti i brani su Maria e suo mistero nei Vangeli di Luca e Giovanni. |
