The mystery of the Trinity cannot be separeted from the mystery of the Incarnation. The Incarnation is fully understood only in the light of the eternal love of the unique and triune God. All other actions «ad extra» are common works of the three Persons of the Holy Trinity even if each person contributes in a personal manner: God the Father conceives the plan, the Son executes it and the Holy Spirit brings it to perfection or finality. The author answers the questions: a) why did the Word become flesh; b) if man had not sinned would we still have the Incarnation? in the orthodox theology there is not always a convergence but today many orthodox theologians affirm that the second Person of the Trinity would have taken flesh even if man had not sinned, because the mystery of the Incarnation was planned before the creation of man, not for his redemption, but for his deification.
