Description
Summary:Founded in 1902 by Leo XIII, the Pontifical Biblical Commission was an organ of the magisterium with a structure similar to that of the Roman Congregations. Its "Answers" had the same authority as the Decrees of the Congregations. Without its name being changed, the Biblical Commission has undergone a change in nature in 1971. The Motu Proprio of Paul VI has made it a consultative body, the collegiality of which is more in keeping with the local Churches; its role consists in offering to the Holy See competent assistance in biblical matters.
