Description
Summary:The study intends to determine precisely what the «spiration» of the Holy Spirit consists in, without however entering into the problem of the Filioque. The difficulty consists in showing clearly the distinction which exists between generation and spiration. Compared to the attempts which have been made to characterise generation as act of intellection and spiration as act of the will the perspective proposed by the Gospel revelation appears more ample in that it does not limit the Son to the quality of being the Word, nor presents the Holy Spirit exclusively as Spirit of love. Jesus speaks of the life-giving Spirit, of the Spirit of truth, of the power of the Spirit. All the aspects of the divine life enter into the act of spiration. This act distinguishes itself from that of generation through a characteristic note of interiorisation which manifests itself also in the work of salvation.
