| Summary: | The Canticle of Moses and the Lamb in Rev 15 is a resumption, in a condensed form, of the Canticle of Moses in Ex 15. In the form it takes, first of all, because both of them centre around a double interrogation. Particularly in their subject-matter, because they occur at similar time: the "already here" of the salvation granted in history and the "not yet" of eschatological fulfilment. Although composed much later, the Canticle of Moses is placed at the time of emergence from the Sea; it is a song of praise for the deliverance carried out by God, and at the same time an act of faith in the God who will lead (and lead back) his people on to his holy mountain. The canticle of Rev 15 likewise celebrates the kingship that God has acquired in the Lamb over all nations and announces the time when they will bow down before Him. The study of the texts is conducted according to the procedures of rhetorical analysis. |
