Summary: | To the Hebrew ruah which the Bible uses to designate the spirit the primary meaning of "breath" or "wind" is usually attributed. A study by H. Cazelles tends to show that the primary meaning is that of "vital ambit". This meaning is found in the revelation of the role of the Holy Spirit. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit forms the vital sphere where the community founded by Christ will develop; he enlivens it with his dynamism and ensures in it a climate of spiritual freedom. He constitutes the plerôma, the milieu market by the fulness of divine life. The inner space that the Spirit builds in individual persons as well as in the entire community allows us to better discern the vital space which he constitutes in the mystery of God. |
